You are all packed up, have booked your movers and now you are simply counting down the hours until you leave your current home and go to your new one. However, the actual day can be the most stressful of all. Don’t sweat it: These five steps should ensure that you have a simple ship-out.

1) Gather Your Last-Minute Items
Although it’s been days (or weeks) since you packed up the majority of your household, there are some things that you may need to pack at the last minute.

Make sure to leave one or two suitcases and some bags available so you can gather these items right before you leave. Some things you may want to keep handy are: pajamas, a change of clothing, toiletries, some snacks and instant coffee or tea for the morning.

Keep these items handy during your last night so you can remain comfortable and easily pack them when it’s time to go.

2) Get Money Out of the Bank/ATM
Before the professionals come and start loading up the truck, you want to be sure that you have enough money to cover the cost of their services, as well as tips and any other fees. Get the cash you need the night before so you don’t have to leave during the actual relocation process.

It’s also a good idea to purchase any drinks or food that you want to have on hand for employees and/or your helpers.

3) Make Sure You’ve Rescheduled/Cancelled Other Obligations
The last thing you want to deal with on the big day is a phone call from your dentist’s office asking if you are still planning on being there at 12:15 for your six-month checkup. Be sure to move all appointments and opt out of other engagements, because you should be there the entire time in case the moving company needs you.

4) Drop Pets or Children Off at the Sitter’s
If you have any kids or pets, it can be a good idea to make arrangements for them to be elsewhere when heavy furniture is leaving your home; it’s safer for them and easier for you.

Make sure to drop your pets at the kennel or your children at a sitter/relative’s house the night before. This ensures that you won’t have to leave on the big day.

5) Get Started As Soon As Possible
Finally, one of the best moving tips is to make sure to get up early. The sooner you rise and shine, the more time you have to gear up for the day and make sure all necessary details are in order.
