Vinegar & Baking Soda

Both of these products are great for cleaning up tarnished silver. You can either mix half a cup of white vinegar with a couple of tablespoons of baking powder and leave your silver to soak for a couple of hours, or you can mix half a cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of water to make a creamy thick paste. You apply the paste with a damp sponge and then clean off and buff. If you are looking to clean gold with this then you should apply some baking powder to the surface first. Make sure that you do not use this cleaning technique with pearls of gem stones as this can affect the finish and also the glue used to hold them in place.

Once you have brushed them vigorously, taking care to not loosen them from their setting, take a damp cloth and wipe the residue away. Toothpaste doesn’t only get your teeth sparkling!

Vodka

Vodka is not only the favourite tipple of millions of people, but it is also great at cleaning glass jewellery or jewellery with crystalline gemstones. It may seem like a waste to some people, but you can simply dip your diamond ring into a glass of vodka and wipe it clean. The vodka gets rid of all the grime and residue that builds up over time.
