Many people put off going on vacations because they just have the time off from work, or it might be too much money. Vacations don’t need to be expensive or elaborate. You can reap all the benefits of a perfect getaway in just a few days. With a bit of planning, weekend trips can be just as relaxing and enjoyable as long term vacations. Here is how to plan a perfect weekend getaway.
Do your research. When planning a vacation not matter if it’s for one day or ten, it’s important to do your research online. Compare prices, search for coupon codes and read reviews. Not only will this help your trip be as cost effective as possible, but reading reviews from other travelers will point you in the right direction when it comes to where to eat, where to stay and what to do. Since you’re only traveling for the weekend, your time will be limited so rather than waste time online during your vacation, get your research done early and come prepared.
Stay local. Getting to your destination and back shouldn’t take up the majority of your time. Choose a place that is relatively easy to drive to, or somewhere you can take a short flight too and won’t have to deal with jet lag when you get there. Plan your travel times wisely. If you’re driving, leave as early as possible, or even better-the night before! Same goes for flying, and bonus points for red-eye flights if you can handle them. You might find some hidden gems nearby that you never knew existed.
Don’t over schedule yourself. You might be tempted to cram a multitude of activities into your weekend getaway, thinking that you’ve got to do as many things as possible in a short amount of time. The thing is though, you shouldn’t need a vacation from your vacation. It’s ok to lay on the beach and simply read a book if you aren’t up for exploring, and downtime is still most definitely taking advantage of your time off. Instead of sticking to a strict itinerary, be flexible and go with the flow. You only have a few days, you should enjoy them.
Make it a memory. If you’re on a weekend getaway as a couple, choose an activity to do that you have never done together and won’t be able to do back home. Jet skiing, hiking, trying out a unique new food…the options are endless. Doing something out of the ordinary together will strengthen your bond, and you’ll go home with a new story to tell and a great memory to share.
