In today’s economy, we are all looking for ways to save money. Whether we save ourselves a few dollars by simply cutting back on personal or unnecessary spending, or come across a good bargain that will save us money in the long run, we are all on the lookout for the best money saving deals available. And, by “we,” that includes the U.S. Coast Guard.

Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard air station in Sitka, AK stopped their heavy usage of oil for heating and, instead, decided to switch to wood pellets. With plans to have the switch completed by the end of the summer, the new wood pellet heating system will provide a more energy efficient source of heating and help the Coast Guard save a fairly significant amount of money, reducing their heating bill by over a third.

Every year the Air Station burns approximately 85,000 gallons of oil for heating purposes. This number boils down to an estimated $340,000 spent each year for oil in Sitka alone. Wood pellets are estimated to cost roughly $300 per ton, in which a ton of pellets is equivalent to about 115 gallons of heating oil. Now that’s a significant difference in costs.

While you may not be burning as much oil as the U.S. Coast Guard, you may be spending unnecessary money on a home oil heating system. Instead, make the switch to a wood boiler heating system and save yourself money all the meanwhile keeping your home warm.

Many who decide to cut back on spending begin to realize that there are alternatives available. Although many of us are accustomed to our daily usage of and dependency on certain household appliances, when it comes to saving money, we become more than accepting to change our common routines.

In regards to wood boiler units, many homeowners have come to the realization that they don’t need to rely on oil, gas or electric as a source of heating. Wood boiler units provide heat and help save money. You can stay warm inside your home and watch your heating bill drop drastically in cost.

If you’re shopping for wood boiler units for your home, whether for outdoor or indoor use, you can save even more money by taking the time to shop around to find a good bargain. Also, you have various boiler designs available to select from and you should take into account the size of the boiler to ensure it fits. You also want to find a reliable company to install the boiler to avoid any damage and ensure the boiler works efficiently.
