Women are unfortunately placed in intimidating, threatening or potentially fatal situations daily. This includes in areas where they should feel safe, such as while walking into their workplace or even in their own home. Being able to defend yourself when you face a serious threat is essential. However, some women are not yet confident in their self-defense skills and abilities, and they continue to feel stressed or to place themselves at risk unnecessarily as a result. These are some exceptional ways to gain confidence with your self-defense abilities.

Take a Self-Defense Class

If you are physically threatened, you need to be able to fight off your attacker effectively. Regardless of your current physical condition, muscle strength and other characteristics, you may learn effective self-defense moves that can immobilize your attacker long enough for you to escape the situation. Self-defense classes may be completed in a few sessions in some cases. These are great for mothers and their older daughters, for groups of friends and even for co-workers to take together.

Invest in Mace or a Taser

It makes sense to be able to fight off an attacker physically, but you may also be in a situation where you can prevent a physical fight altogether. If you come face-to-face with a threat, the use of a taser or mace may incapacitate the individual temporarily so that you can run away. These products are not legal in all areas, so understand the laws in your area before making an investment.

Take Shooting Lessons

Depending on local laws, you may be able to carry a concealed handgun with you in your purse or even on your body. If not, you may still be able to keep a handgun at home for personal safety on your property. A gun can seem intimidating if you are not comfortable using it, and it may even be dangerous for yourself and those close to you if you do not know how to handle it properly. To improve your confidence with a gun, plan to take shooting lessons and to spend time at a range periodically to maintain your skills.

Self-defense is an important matter for any woman. Regardless of where you live, you may become a victim of a physical crime if you are not prepared to defend yourself. Now is the time to improve your self-defense skills and strategies. You may use several of these tips to protect yourself fully in a wide range of possible scenarios.
