Congratulations, graduate! If it’s time for you to get your degree, you’re probably going to need to get a picture or two to go with it. When you’re trying to get the perfect picture, you’ll want to know exactly how and where to go.

Be-YOU-tiful

So you’re getting set up for the day, and you’ve gotta decide exactly how you want to look. You might be tempted to break out your most dramatic color scheme, or maybe you’re thinking about going a natural, neutral road. Neither answer is right, but neither one is wrong—today is about you! Don’t be afraid to strut your stuff and really look like yourself, but keep in mind what will look best in the lighting you choose. If there’s something you wear all the time, like an accessory or a particular shade or hue, go for it and remember that sometimes having one little pop of color will make a picture stand out all the more.

Capstimization

Decorating your cap is a grad classic for many reasons, but have you considered doing up your gown too? You’ll have tons of photos in the regular outfit, so have a little fun with it for this one. If you’re thinking about wearing your souped up style to the actual graduation ceremony, though, make sure you check in with your school first. Also, be extra careful with rentals! The last thing you want to do is get slammed with another bill, right before grad.

Backdropping

Where you go is just as important as how you go it. Is there a place on campus that means the most to you? Maybe it’s not a place per se, but more of a setup that carries some kind of meaningful weight, like a particular type of tree or flower? Find out when and where you can snap the best possible pic with the right backdrop to add that extra something to your memories of a very momentous occasion. If you took a first day of school pic, it might make for a good “full circle” moment to go back to that same spot and snap another one when you say goodbye!

POSEtivity

The pose is one of the most important parts of your soon-to-be fabulous photos! Don’t settle for just one, and don’t feel like you need to get stuck in formal rut. The traditional pose is all well and good, but why not go for something that really captures your spirit? Indulge yourself a little!  If you are self-conscious about your smile you should go to The Smile Architects. Make sure you’re comfortable for the big day.  You’re graduating, after all, and all that serious work means it’s time for some serious play. Try out what feels natural, then try out something you might never have dared to.

To all of you graduates out there, we wish you the best in your future endeavors—and the best in your future photographs as well!
