Modern Life – Keeping it Healthy?

Modern life… What is it and what are its main characteristics? Well, I’m being rather vague here, since there are plenty of different things connected to it, and it is hard to choose the one that’s going to be discussed here. The one I’m referring to is living indoors. Surely you will agree with this. Of so many things connected to modern living, this one should be one of the basic ones, because I am talking about living in the today’s world in general so, logically, since living is being discussed, living inside should be the main thing.

Why is it like that? It isn’t like that on the entire globe, but in the modern part, it certainly is. But still, the tendency of people is to live in closed places. This is so because people feel more secure in tight, closed spaces, except for claustrophobic people – they certainly don’t feel safe there, but most people do. It’s been like that since the beginning of time, or at least we think it’s been like that. It seems rather logical, so it must be like that, and let’s just trust our scientists, since they don’t usually fail us… The emphasis is on the word usually, if you know what I mean. Anyway, this tendency has made us develop these closed, secure places, and today, with all of this wonderful technological advancement, we have everything we need in our homes. It is great, when you think about it, because it makes everything so much easier, especially for many of us who are very lazy (I’m guilty here) but, and yes, of course there’s a “but”, there is always a “but”, one problem arises from this. That problem is the fact that we are getting even more and more alienated from nature, and even from each other. There are people who don’t like nature, but it is still very important that we be a part of it, because, we are, after all, part of it, whether we like it or not. Mankind has been looking at nature as an enemy for a very long time, and this has made us very afraid of it. This is a problem because nature will always be there, and besides that, we need it to be there or we won’t have oxygen to breathe, unless we develop an artificial way of creating it, but that is too science-fiction to even think about. Thus, we need to be more in touch with the “living” part of our surroundings.

The good thing is that we can achieve this, and we can achieve it in many ways. Many people go out to the countryside from time to time, go hiking, on picnics, camping out in the woods, hunting, and many, many more different excursions. Some even leave the civilized world and go to live by themselves in the woods or something like that. Those are the extreme cases and really, they aren’t for everyone. You need to have a lot of energy, a strong body and persistency to even attempt something like that. So, if you are not a type of person such as this, then don’t even think about it. Stick to the little excursions we mentioned. They should be enough to satisfy most people.

On the other hand, if this doesn’t seem to be good enough for you, you should bring nature to your home! By this I mean having plenty of different plants, animals as pets even, and things such as these. Another thing that you should do is related to your yard. It would be great to change your yard or to give it a more natural feel. More plants, trees, flowers and whatnot, because everything will help. Besides that, you should make it so that it is much more interesting. You can make in such a way that you would want to spend more time there. The best solution for this has to be a pool.


A pool is something that everyone should have. It’s fun, it’s for everyone, it’s outside, and with this, we deal with the problem of the modern world. With a pool in your backyard you’ll be able to relax more in this part of your home and, most importantly, you will be able to swim a bit everyday. And if you didn’t know, swimming is the best way to keep your body in shape, because this activity engages all of your muscles. This will not make you look like a bodybuilder but it will certainly help you get fit and stronger.

Once you get a pool, you should really look into improving it. You should think about chemical dispensers of sorts for example. With these, you’ll be able to add salt to the water for instance, making your experience closer to the sea/ocean. This will get you more in touch with nature as well. You can even think about making the water drinkable… Adding a heating system can help you enjoy the water during the cold nights for example, and what is more beautiful than being in the water during the night, so that you can watch the stars, listen to nature’s creatures and much more. Add some lights to the pool and all of this will be even better. But besides these things, you need to take good care of the pool if you want it to continue to serve you well for a long time. You need to consider some cleaners, filters, pumps, and whatnot, because you need to keep the pool clean and the water pure and healthy. Or, you can hire someone to do it for you – your choice. It always gets down to money, so I guess that you should consult your budget before doing any of this.

No matter what you believe, this is without a doubt a great way to get closer to nature and to overcome this terrible affliction of the modern age that I’ve been talking about.
