Night Owl? 3 Jobs Looking for People Just Like You

Most jobs have traditional work hours that require you to get up early most days of the week and to be away from the house for the better part of the day. These jobs are well-suited for many people, but you may have a different internal clock than most people have. If you prefer to stay up late or to sleep for at least a good portion of the day, these traditional jobs are impractical or even uncomfortable for you. The good news is that there are many types of jobs that allow you to work late into the evening or even overnight.

A Security Guard

Many businesses hire security guards to observe properties overnight and on the weekends. Security guards may be used to patrol retail centers and office parks, to remain on-site at a large warehouse or manufacturing facility and more. Because live security professionals are needed in so many areas, security jobs can easily offer job security. An alternative that may require more training is to become a police officer.

A Healthcare Worker

Medical offices are generally closed at night and on the weekend, but some medical facilities require staff on-site at all hours of the day. These may include senior living facilities, mental health centers, hospitals and more. In addition to requiring nurses and doctors, administrative staff, cooking and cleaning staff and others may be needed at these facilities. This means that there may be a position for individuals with a wide range of backgrounds in this field.

A Cleaning Professional

Professional housecleaners generally visit homes during the day or on the weekends, but commercial cleaning crews usually do their work at night when the workers and customers or clients are not present. Cleaning professionals often must be hard workers and detail-oriented. Some may already have cleaning skills, but you may also be able to find positions with on-the-job training. If you have an entrepreneurial mindset, you could consider starting your own commercial cleaning business after you gain some experience in the field.

Traditional jobs with standard work hours are well-suited for many people, but you may be looking for a position that is more practical for your sleeping schedule and lifestyle. These are some of the more common evening or overnight positions that you may find, but there are others to consider as well. Assess your unique skillset and interests before you start looking for a late-night position in these or other fields.
