I love my kitchen.  I spend a lot of time in this room cooking for my family and just relaxing with a book and cup of tea.  My kitchen is a little haven for me and the perfect place to unwind and take a break from the hectic pace of life.

I did start to notice though that the décor in the kitchen was looking a little tired.  It had been a long time since any work had been carried out in this room and it was looking out-dated.  I was desperate to give my kitchen a makeover but knew I just wouldn’t have the money to do any major renovations.

Makeovers that Don’t’ Cost the Earth
Fortunately you can find a great range of fantastic DIY tips from home magazines and also the Internet these days.  I enjoyed spending some time researching DIY makeover articles and found some great ways to improve my kitchen even on a tight budget.

I had a few days holiday-leave to use up so I booked some time off and bought in some supplies.  With a little hard work and some cool Internet shopping bargains I was able to transform my kitchen and bring it back up to date.  I am now even more smitten with my kitchen than ever before!

Freshen Up Your Kitchen
There are some very easy and affordable ways in which you too could freshen up your kitchen.  It will help if you have some previous DIY experience.  However if you are a total beginner you can find some great step-by-step guides online and from DIY centres that will help you get started.

I have some basic skills in DIY but I am no means an expert.  I found the following tips quite easy to follow through and recommend them if you want to get a fast and cheap makeover for your kitchen space.

1. Paint Your Cabinet Doors
If you cannot afford to replace your cabinet doors then consider painting them.  There are some amazing colours to choose from these days when it comes to household paints.  You could choose a subtle tone that fits in with your current décor but offers a fresher, bright look for your cabinets.  Alternatively you could choose a bold, striking colour that complements your kitchen colour scheme but that also adds visual interest.

2. Update the Hardware
It is surprising how quickly cabinet and door handles can go out of date.  I found it fairly straightforward to remove the old hardware and replace it with some new shiny chrome designs I ordered online.  These new handles looked fantastic and really finished the updated look of the cabinets.

3. Paint the Walls
A fresh coat of paint can go a long way to updating the look and feel of your kitchen.  Painting walls is fairly straightforward and the secret to a good finish is in the preparatory work.  My kitchen suffered from tired and outdated wallpaper.  I removed this with a steamer and scraper and then washed the walls down with sugar soap to remove any last traces of wallpaper and paste.

I found a few small dents in the walls which I smoothed out with some filler.  If your walls are in good condition then you may not need to coat first with a primer.  It is always a good idea to use a paint designed for kitchens as this will include anti-fungal ingredients that help to prevent mould and mildew from growing.

There are some great ways you can update your kitchen quickly and cheaply. A simple coat of paint can work wonders and can really freshen up the heart of your home. Written by Kutchenhaus Kitchens for Sale Online
