The library has an architectural unit that’s been designed since time immemorial as either repository of knowledge, a place of study, or both. Since it is designed for studying, it is the most optimal place to study. With that said, not all students share the same study habits. Some students actually prefer to be around a crowded space where there are a lot of people, and there are a lot of distractions. These students are able to study because the competing distractions help them to focus their mind on the stuff that they are reading. Especially if they’re wearing earplugs and listening to soothing music, where they can see the people around them going back and forth, coming and going, talking among friends, and bringing all sorts of stuff, these visual stimuli allow them to focus on what they’re doing.

On the otherhand, there are certain people that easily get distracted. This type of students needs to block out everything else for them to focus on the materials that they’re studying. Fair enough. For this population of students, the library is the best place to study. The library, especially if you pick a really quiet corner hidden in a far off space, directly insulates you from what else is going around.

Most people using the library follow the same rules, which is “quiet please”. There is no right or wrong answer. You may be a type of person that likes distractions so you can focus, or you’re the traditional student that likes to eliminate all distractions so you can focus. Regardless of your focusing habits, you need to be in the right spot and have the right equipment. If you are going to be studying in the library, make sure that you use earplugs if you’re going to be listening to music. Same goes if you’re in a café studying somewhere, or in an open area. Make sure that you have the right books with you so you have all the materials to look up for in your study. Make sure that you have your highlighting pens, so you can highlight the right materials, and your notebook or laptops , so you can take the right notes. Be equipped, come with the right attitude, and be at the right place. If you have all these 3 ingredients together, then your next study session will be a big success.
