Eggs are one of the most inexpensive sources of rich protein readily available to the majority of us. One whole, large egg contains about 8 grams of protein. The protein content is about evenly divided between the egg white and the egg yolk, so it is important that you eat both. While previous research has warned people about the high levels of cholesterol in egg yolks, the theory that cholesterol was responsible for heart attacks and strokes has been largely dismissed. As long as you do not consume more than 2 eggs yolks a day, you shouldn’t have to worry about any negative side-effects with regular exercise.

2) Fish

There are so many types of fish out there, and the general consensus is that they are all good sources of protein. Other than cost, there are two major things that you should look for when you are purchasing fish. The first is omega-3 fatty acid content. Dark-flesh fish such as tuna, mackerel, and salmon tend to have very high levels of this extremely beneficial ingredient. White-flesh fish, on the other hand, tend to have much lower levels of omega-3s. Secondly, you should be aware of the levels of mercury in each type of fish that you plan on consuming. Certain types of fish are limited to a single serving a week due to their high mercury contents.

3) Nuts

Another excellent source of rich protein is the nut. Like with fish, there are so many varieties to choose from but only certain kinds will give you the maximum protein content and nutrition. Almonds, walnuts, and peanuts tend to be the most healthy out of the bunch when eaten raw. Cashews are another favorite of many that also contain a good amount of protein and heart-healthy fats. Many people shy away from nuts because nuts contain high levels of fat, but what they fail to realize is most of it is good for you.

4) Dairy

Milk, yogurt, and cheese are great sources of protein as well. Dairy foods have large amounts of Vitamin D in them and that aids with absorption of calcium to build strong bones. Low-fat dairy foods are great for those looking to slim down and shape up.

5) Meat

Yes, it’s true that many meats contain too much harmful fat. Regardless, they are great sources protein if that is your only concern. Poultry tends to be healthier than red meat. Chicken breast and turkey breast are actually extremely lean cuts of meat with high protein content. Red meats can also be eaten once in a while with no problems at all.
