Moving house can be a very stressful event in your life, especially when it is the first time you are moving. To make this transition easier for you, make sure you have all of the items you need for your new home. The chances are that if this is your first time moving house, then you will not already own appliances like a kettle or a toaster; these items will need to be bought and it can be easy to forget some things. Look at the following list to help you decipher what you have and what you still need to get.

Kitchen

  • Appliances

The kitchen is a huge part of your house and you need to make sure it is fully equipped with everything you need. You do not want to be stuck without some things, for example, many people hate not having their morning cup of tea, so make sure you have the kettle. Other things you need to remember include: blender, whisk, coffee machine (if you want one), microwave, oven (if the house does not have one pre-installed), fridge and a freezer.

  • Utencils

You would think knives and forks would be fairly simple to remember, however these are often overlooked. Make sure you have all of the cutlery you need. Other items you may want to think about including in your home are: spatulas, masher, a set of knives, scissors, potato peeler, and a cheese slice.

  • Other items

Make sure you remember your tea towels and all of your cooking equipment, for example saucepans and casserole dishes. Also, bowls and plates are essential, otherwise you will be eating out of the saucepan. You may also want to include a table and chairs in your kitchen if you do not have a dining room you can eat in.

Living Room

  • Furniture

The sofa is going to be the main and most important piece of furniture in your living room. Make sure you get a decent sofa that you love because you will most likely have that sofa for many years; you might want to get other seating too, depending on who you live with or who will visit often. Other pieces if furniture that you may want to include are a side table where you can store items you may have and you might also want to purchase a table for your TV to go on.

  • Electronics

The TV! This is one of the first items that people look at when they are moving into a new home. Your living room could be a little bit quiet if you do not have the TV, however, some people would rather not have a TV at all; this decision is completely up to you. If you do buy a TV, then you may also want to consider purchasing a DVD player or a games console. A lamp may also be a helpful investment for your living room.

  • Extras

To make your living room look great, you may want to add mirrors and pictures on the walls. These items just complete the room.

Dining Room

  • Furniture

The table and chairs are the most important pieces of furniture for you dining room; this will be the focal point of this room. Other items of furniture you may want to include is another side table to store relevant dining room items.

  • Extras

Remember your table mats and coasters so you do not ruin your lovely and brand new dining room table.

Bedroom

  • Furniture

The bedroom is going to be one of the most important rooms for you because this may be the room where you spend most of your time. The most important item of furniture for your bedroom is your bed. Other pieces of furniture that you will want to include are bed side tables, a chest of drawers, a wardrobe and a dresser.

  • Electronics

You may want to include a TV in your bedroom and you will most likely want to include a lamp.

  • Extras

Other items that you may want to purchase for your new home include a vacuum cleaner, an iron, an ironing board and a lawn mower.
